Cultural Tourism

Cultural tourism forms part of the potential matrix of business enterprises that can occur on NLE properties. Accommodation, art and bush foods can form part of the experience that enhances the tourism experience.

Tourism is a large contributor to regional Australia. During 2002 and 2003, cultural tourists were accounting for 20.5 per cent of tourism expenditure in regional Australia; or $6.3 billion per annum7. Cultural tourism can be an experience where Noongar people share their culture and stories with non Noongar people. Not only does this create further employment opportunities but it can be a process of cultural rejuvenation. Tourism also provides an opportunity to value-add other products such as art or bush foods produced on the properties. As a group, we have a role to help facilitate tourism opportunities for our members, and capture the benefits of scale which can be achieved through establishing tourism routes promoting our properties and our region.
